The Riverfront Development Corporation held its monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon, where it was announced that the state had given the RDC a one year extension on grant money it intends to use on a splash pad/multi purpose area.
There is one caveat though, the state would like to see a budget for the proposed construction. As such, the city will be providing the RDC with a sample “Request for Quotation,” that it will then use to go out for it’s own bids to satisfy the states requirements.
Details about the construction were also discussed, including if it would be best to do a modular design, where a construction company could first build the central section of the project, and expand as more funds became available. Director of Engineering and Utilities Jeffrey Conte also said that the city has an abundance of backfill from the airport project that could be used at the riverfront, to reduce costs. There was also discussion about restarting discussions with Ameren about burying the powerlines along the riverfront.
Laura Sievert Hesseltine, Executive Director of Arts Quincy, was in attendance at the meeting, where she gave an update on attempts to secure funding for the Arts Quincy amphitheater. She will be traveling to Springfield on April 29th with Arts Alliance, a coalition of Arts Organizations in the state, for its Capitol Day event. During this time she will be meeting with law makers and decision makers and discussing funds for it and other projects.
The next riverfront development meeting will be held on May 21st at 4pm inside the Quincy Boat Club.
