Lincoln Avenue paving delayed as gas company fast-tracks pipeline upgrade

The Lincoln Avenue paving project was supposed to start on May 5. However, the city of Steubenville received information from a gas company that needs to do work along the road, thus prolonging the project’s start date.

“We got some word from Columbia Gas that there was some leakage in the area and some homes needed transferred from a low-pressure line to the new medium-pressure line,” City Engineer Mike Dolak said.

The Columbia Gas project was not supposed to take place until next year, but officials from the company are changing the timeline.

“So, they hurried up and they are going to let this project start this year,” Dolak said. “Hopefully, you will see some work starting later this week or, hopefully, next week”

Now, there will be a delay in paving the roads until mid-June. When paving does start, it will take place during the day.

“That’s going to run all the way from the library at Slack and Fourth, down Fourth, continue on Lincoln Avenue all the way out to Sinclair to our corporation limits, and then it is also going to go up Coal Hill about 1,000 feet to Walnut,” Dolak said.

When paving does take place, it will be curb to curb. The total cost of the whole project is $670,000.
