DENVER (
KDVR
) — Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has submitted plans for the redevelopment of one of the parking lots surrounding Ball Arena to the city of Denver.
Denver City Council approved the
rezoning of about two and a half acres on Wazee Street
on April 15, which is home to an office building and parking lot. On Monday, the first concept plans for the area were submitted.
The plans include a 13-story hotel and a performance venue that appears to share a building, or at least a wall, with a 12-story residential building. The performance venue would have four levels and a below-ground parking garage. The hotel would also feature an underground parking garage.
The plans also discuss an elevated promenade that would have retail opportunities and connect to 12th Street and a proposed pedestrian bridge that would span Speer Boulevard, connecting the Cherry Creek bike path trail to the area where the hotel and venue are planned.
The plans describe the bridge as a “signature asymmetrical split steel arch rib with cable hangers supporting steel floor beams.”
“The end of the bridge deck on the Arena side will land on a private parcel and connect with a plaza walkway above grade between two new buildings to be constructed as part of the Arena Redevelopment Phase 1,” the plans state.
Denver City Council approved various rezoning measures to allow the massive project in October last year, creating avenues for potential changes to be made to the city’s skyline.
