Day two grades for the Detroit Lions 2025 NFL Draft picks, Lions move up and get their guys

Day two of the 2025 NFL Draft has concluded, and the Detroit Lions have made several selections and executed some maneuvers during this phase of the event. Now let’s evaluate their choices as well as any trades they were involved in.

Second round trade

Lions got:

57th and 230th picks

Broncos got:

60th and 130th picks

If you examine other compensatory picks from the second round, this one isn’t out of place. However, the issue for the Lions is that they face a considerable break when selections resume. Their next chance to choose doesn’t come until the sixth round at number 196, unless they manage to strike another deal before then.

57th selection: Tate Ratledge, Offensive Lineman from Georgia

This selection has no drawbacks. When Kevin Zeitler departed from the Lions to join the Titans as their starting right guard, Detroit needed a replacement. By drafting Ratledge, they secured an instant contributor who will team up with Christian Mahomes inside the offensive line. This duo strengthens the heart of the unit significantly.

If there’s one aspect you find unfavorable, it might be that the Lions once more shifted their focus to edge rushing.

Trade

Lions got:

The 70th and 182nd selections along with a sixth-round choice in 2026

Jaguars got:

102nd pick and two 2026 third-round picks

I do not at all like this trade for the Lions. They gave up way too much to move up this spot, and while I like the pick, you sort of put yourself in a position where you have to really hope that it pays off to a point where you look back and don’t feel like you gave up too much. As of now, it’s bad.

70th pick: Isaac TeSlaa, WR, Arkansas

The Lions have reason to feel positive about this situation, and it’s understandable why they do. This 6-foot-4 wide receiver boasts a 40-yard dash time of 4.43 seconds and possesses one of the highest vertical jumps among prospects in this year’s draft. Expect him to take over Tim Patrick’s role right away and become an asset that Jared Goff lacked during his tenure with the team. His ability to catch balls at their highest points makes him particularly valuable.

Given his athleticism and size, one can’t help but question why Arkansas utilized him so sparingly. Here’s hoping the Lions don’t discover the reason behind this in an unfavorable manner.
