Large plumes of smoke could be seen for miles as crews work to put out a fire Wednesday evening just south of W. 11th Street in Eugene.
The fire burning at a home off W. 12th Avenue and Garfield Street.
Multiple crews were on scene. No injuries reported.
“Engine 2 responding out of [the] Chambers station saw a big–what we call a header–a big plume of black smoke coming up so we knew we had a real house fire going when it toned out. So he called that over the air which was really good information,” says Eugene-Springfield Battalion Chief Ed Meyer.
The right side of the house was fully involved, exposing an adjacent home and setting it on fire slightly. They were able to put that fire out according to the Battalion Chief.
One man was renting the home, whom a neighbor said they were happy to take in. He and the home’s owner were present while the fire department were hosing down the charred rubble.
“I just saw the fire trucks and had to go around,” says David, the owner.
“Sometimes these things happen, I don’t know what say.”
The condition of the home is unknown. The fire is currently under investigation.
