Oklahoma State football QB Garret Rangel entering transfer portal

STILLWATER — The
Oklahoma State quarterback derby
is now a two-man race.

Redshirt junior Garret Rangel
is entering the transfer portal,
The Oklahoman
has confirmed.

Rangel was the most experienced of the four quarterbacks who entered the competition at the beginning of spring practice last month. He appeared in 13 games, nearly half of them starts, completing 93 of 180 passes for 1,075 yards and eight touchdowns with seven interceptions.

He took over as the starting quarterback last October at BYU, but broke his collarbone in the second quarter and was lost for the season.

Rangel will have two years of eligibility remaining.

OSU also lost another quarterback with starting experience,
redshirt freshman Maealiuaki Smith
, who entered the transfer portal earlier this week. Smith started the final two games last season as a true freshman.

That leaves the
Cowboys
with two quarterbacks on the roster in redshirt sophomore Zane Flores and redshirt freshman Hauss Hejny, who transferred from TCU in December.
