Carlos Alcaraz
has established himself as one of the top players in the ATP. Since his debut in 2020, he has continued to grow and evolve in his game which has made him among the best players of his generation. However, he’s yet to win the Australian Open and has declared that it is his biggest career target.
Alcaraz claimed his first Grand Slam at the 2022 US Open. He then went on to beat
Novak Djokovic
at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship to win the title. Last year, he pulled an impressive comeback against
Alexander Zverev
to win his first French Open before claiming his second consecutive Wimbledon title the following month.
The World No.3 has yet to make his mark at the Australian Open. In fact, for the past two editions of the tournament, he has not gone beyond the quarter-finals, which has been his best run at the tournament. This year, he was one of the favorites to win the title but fell to Djokovic in the last eight. The hunger to win the Australian Open is now fresh in the heart of Alcaraz.
If Alcaraz wins his first Australian Open title next year, the 21-year-old will become the youngest man ever to complete a Career Slam. However, it’s still a long time before the event, and has the French Open and Wimbledon to defend in the coming months.
Carlos Alcaraz hopes to play in Madrid despite no confirmation of the extent of his injury
Carlos Alcaraz was at the premiere of his documentary
Carlos Alcaraz: My Way
for Netflix on Tuesday (April 23). The Spaniard had had light training at the Madrid Open after
picking up an injury against
Holger Rune
in the Barcelona Open final. Despite having a
problem in the adductor muscle
of his right leg, he believes he can still play in Madrid.
Alcaraz has won the Madrid Open twice in his career. However, last year he failed to defend the title due to an arm injury he was struggling with at the tournament. Hopefully, he will be able to give his best in Madrid.
Carlos Alcaraz’s injury might force him out of the Madrid Open
Carlos Alcaraz is among the top favorites to win the Madrid Open. The World No.3 has only lost once in his last nine matches on Tour. In fact, he has been to two clay-court finals. He won the Monte Carlo Masters after defeating
Lorenzo Musetti
but failed to do the same in Barcelona as
he was beaten by
Holger Rune
.
However, Alcaraz’s injury might complicate things for him. The Spaniard is dealing with an abductor injury, and
recovery time varies depending
on the severity of the strain. In mild cases, it can lead to weeks and some months. Alcaraz has revealed that he feels alright but will have to undergo a scan before featuring at the Madrid Open.
Nonetheless, treatment for the injury can help speed up the healing process. It involves rear, ice, compression, and elevation after physical therapy to restore strength and flexibility in the abductor.
