A family says they had two Ford F-350s stolen from the Presbyterian Hospital parking lot within a week while tending to their dying father.
“Just that inability to be able to grieve with my family afterward for a great man is something that I’ll never get back,” Shannon Jacques said.

For the past three months, Jacques’s family has made frequent visits to the hospital. Recently, they decided to put her father into hospice care. Last Tuesday, while visiting her father at Presbyterian Hospital, someone stole their Ford F-350.
“But we moved on,” Jacques said. “It is what it is.”
Days later, on Sunday, Jacques and her family returned to the hospital, and on that day, her father passed.
“I have an amazing father,” Jacques said. “He’s very well-known in the community. We are all going to grieve his loss at his services and for a long time to come.”

However, that grief would turn into anger when she walked outside and could not find her husband’s truck.
“Once you figure out it’s been stolen, I didn’t park in a different place you realize that it’s gone, you get very angry,” Jacques said.
Two vehicles were stolen in a matter of days, both Ford F-350s.
According to the Albuquerque Police Department, auto thefts are down 46 percent this year. However, Ford F-350s are one of the top three stolen vehicles this year.
Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos offered a statement regarding auto thefts within city limits.

Police statement
“We are investigating the incidents. The Auto Theft Unit sent out an alert to all officers.
“Auto theft in general is down this year by 46%. There were 219 auto thefts in 2024 YTD compared to 101 this year YTD. The University Area Command, where Presbyterian Hospital is located, has seen a decrease of 50% — 30 stolen vehicles in 2024 compared to 14 in 2025. Presbyterian was identified during a meeting last week as a repeat stolen location with 2 auto thefts in the past 28 days. That includes one of the stolen trucks you mentioned. The second one occurred after this report came out.
“We have seen an increase in trucks being stolen and we have put that information out to the public. In particular, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and Ford F-350 are the top three models this year. They account for 66% of all stolen vehicles this year.
“We do track hot spots for stolen vehicles. The Southeast, Northeast and Foothills have the most stolen vehicles.
“We also track hot spots where vehicles are recovered. That is similar to the hot spots for stolen vehicles, but Southeast is where most are recovered.
“I would point out that our auto theft detectives and field units have made a lot of progress in reducing auto theft over the past several years. However, they are frustrated because of the lack of accountability for repeat offenders who face little to no consequences for their criminal activity. Chief Medina has made the point over and over that addiction is driving much of these auto theft crimes and people should get help for their addiction. But they shouldn’t be allowed to return to the streets where we know they are more likely to continue their criminal behavior and victimize more people throughout the city.”
Presbyterian Hospital statement
“The safety of our facilities, workforce, patients, and members is a top priority. As part of our efforts, we maintain 24/7 onsite security officers, work closely with the Albuquerque Police Department, and use technology and other measures to help prevent security incidents.
“Unfortunately, we are aware of two recent vehicle thefts and deeply sympathize with the families who were impacted by these incidents. In both cases, we filed incident reports and shared video footage with the Albuquerque Police Department to further their investigation.”
Regardless of their responses, Jacques said she is fed up.
“I think my biggest frustration is the fact that we have seen crime rise to a level that is unheard of in growing up and living in this community all of my life,” Jacques said.
