It seems like we’re in baby season, and the MLB has become the perfect stage to reveal big news, whether to fans or the players themselves. Recently, we’ve seen different teams getting in on the fun, but this time it was all about the
Guardians
,
Steven Kwan
, and
David Fry.
Just like
Trea Turner
was the one to reveal the gender of
Bryce Harper’s
new baby,
Steven Kwan
had the honor of announcing the big news to his teammate, David Fry, and his wife,
Rebekah
.
The Frys have a two-year-old daughter named
Evelyn
, and with baby number two on the way, Rebekah and Kwan’s wife, Samantha, were brainstorming a possible gender reveal. Rebekah and
Samantha
are very close.
So, Samantha asked Kwan if he wanted to help do something at the stadium, because Fry is currently rehabbing from a November surgery on his right elbow and isn’t with the Guardians in Cleveland.
“I thought: ‘Of course, I think it would be awesome,'”
said
Kwan
.
“Anything to involve David, because obviously he’s in rehab, and we’d love to have him here.”
Kwan
and his wife found out the baby’s gender before Tuesday’s game, and they were the only ones who knew. Kwan stepped into the batter’s box in the first inning and immediately called time from home plate umpire,
Vic Carapazza.
He pulled a pink wristband from his back pocket and slipped it onto his left forearm. That’s how Fry and his wife, Rebekah, learned they were having a girl.
“I was thrilled,”
said
Kwan
.
“…His whole family was watching. He was excited, so it was great.”
