Interim NMSU Police Chief Justin Dunivan explained the situation regarding one of the described suspects, 18-year-old Tyler Gutierrez.

“A suspicious white Chevy Tahoe was spotted in the parking lot near the Alumni and Visitors Center with all its windows down,” Dunivan said. “Officers canvassed the area and discovered the burglaries. They spotted a suspect walking across the parking lot at College Drive and Knox and detained him.”

Gutierrez has been charged and university police said he is not a student at NMSU. He is charged with burglary of a vehicle, non-residential burglary, and two related conspiracy charges.

The second burglary suspect is at large. Anyone with information is being asked to contact NMSU police at 575-646-3311.
