Las Vegas Robotics Teams Soar to Global Stage

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The two Vex Robotics teams from Northwest Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas have emerged victorious at the Nevada State Championships for the Vex V5 Robot Challenge.

They are now moving onto the international level in Dallas where they will participate in the world championships in May, facing off against approximately 800 distinct teams. This yearly gathering unites elite squads from the VEX IQ, VEX V5, and VEX U robotics competitions across the globe.

“My passion stems from the technical realm. As the constructor for my group, I take charge of designing and assembling much of the robot, which I find incredibly enjoyable. The engineering process truly appeals to me,” stated Junior Owen Kirpes.

One team’s robot goes by the name Electro Boogie, whereas the opposing side has dubbed their creation ITZGUD. These two squads joined forces to increase their chances of claiming victory at the Nevada State Championship.

The drivers for both teams are brothers Senior Cash Walker and Junior Cain Walker. Cain said working with his older brother helped elevate their game and achieve victory.

“We synchronized with my brother’s team, and they agreed. Afterward, we dedicated the remainder of the tournament to ensuring our playstyle was fine-tuned and that we would collaborate effectively,” Junior Cain Walker stated.

This presents a fantastic chance for these committed students to demonstrate their abilities, creativity, and collaboration.

The competition between both teams will take place from May 6 to May 8 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.
