Airports warn of potential delays as Real ID deadline approaches

With the May 7 deadline fast approaching, Arkansas residents are being urged to obtain their Real ID licenses to avoid potential travel disruptions.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has emphasized the importance of having a Real ID, as those without it may face difficulties boarding flights.

Currently, 1.5 million Arkansans still need to acquire their Real ID. Without it, travelers may be subjected to additional identity verification processes at the airport, which could delay their ability to board flights. The TSA will attempt to verify identities by asking a series of questions, but there is no guarantee of success.

“Please don’t panic, but take action,” said Shane Carter, Director of Public Affairs for Clinton National Airport. He advised residents to obtain a Real ID to ensure a smooth travel experience.

In addition to the Real ID, other acceptable forms of identification include a passport, passport card, TWIC card, Merchant Marine ID, and Department of Defense ID. The Arkansas mobile ID app is also valid if it includes a Real ID.

Travelers are reminded that the Real ID features a gold star in the upper right corner. The TSA recommends arriving at the airport two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights to accommodate the new requirements.
