Georgia Tech’s Jackson Long Jumps into the Transfer Portal: A New Chapter Awaited

Jackson Long, a redshirt sophomore tight end from Georgia Tech, revealed via social media today that he plans to enter the transfer portal. After playing for one year at the University of South Florida, Long joined the Yellow Jackets but was unable to participate in games due to injury issues during his time there.

This season, Georgia Tech will depend heavily on second-year tight end Luke Harpring, J.T. Byrne who transferred from Cal, and Brett Seither for their offensive lineups. During the spring, Yellow Jackets’ tight ends coach Nathan Brock expressed great confidence in this trio and praised their versatility.

Sure, so over the past few years, I believe we’ve made significant progress in identifying players who align well with our offensive strategy. The primary aspect we focus on is their mindset—how driven they are, whether they’re diligent workers, passionate about football, and supportive towards their teammates. Once these qualities are confirmed, we foster development through mutual encouragement among team members. For instance, JT, whom you’ll hear from shortly, has been performing exceptionally well recently; he’s becoming increasingly communicative yet remains dedicated to his own improvement. This approach extends throughout the squad during spring practice sessions where everyone gets equal opportunities to participate.
There isn’t a set hierarchy here—the competition pushes every player equally. Take Luke Harpring as an illustration—he continues progressing across different drills: ones, twos, threes—and this dynamic mirrors Coach Eubanks’ emphasis on building camaraderie within the team. Overall, the entire unit consistently demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm both individually and collectively toward excelling under our coaching because they genuinely enjoy being part of the Georgia Tech community and aspire to keep moving forward positively.
