rechargeable battery-research facility
SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) — The largest research facility for rechargeable batteries in South Korea was inaugurated on Tuesday in Cheongju City. This development aims to boost the international market position of domestic companies within this field, as stated by the Ministry of Industry.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Battery Solution Testbed Zone (BST Zone) is a facility designed to consolidate various infrastructures for researching and testing every aspect of rechargeable batteries. This includes everything from materials and components to cells, modules, and even all-solid-state batteries throughout their entire value chain.
This facility will assist Korean battery firms in developing novel materials by offering information about the physical and chemical characteristics of substances and parts used in rechargeable batteries, along with evaluations concerning their safety.
“Through the launch of BST Zone, this specialized industrial park located in Northern Chungcheong Province will advance significantly, becoming a key center for the advancement of secondary batteries,” stated Deputy Minister Lee Seung-ryeol from the Ministry of Industry Policy.
He further stated that the administration will keep increasing assistance to businesses to aid their international competitiveness through the acquisition of expensive testing machinery.
