Giants Choose UToledo Defensive Tackle in Third Round of NFL Draft

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) — On Friday, the New York Giants chose University of Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander as their 65th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

In his final year as a fifth-year senior, Alexander secured second-team All-MAC recognition during his time with the Rockets. He led from the starting position in 12 matches, collecting 40 tackles along with seven-and-a-half tackles for loss, three-and-a-half sacks, and deflecting four passes. Notably, he scored a touchdown via an interception return in the team’s dramatic six-overtime victory against Pitt in their bowl game.

When Alexander was drafted on Friday, the Rockets became the first team in their organization’s history to select players in the first three rounds of consecutive drafts. Last year, the Eagles chose Quinyon Mitchell in the first round.

It marks the fifth consecutive year that a player from the Rockets team has been drafted. In 2022, Tysen Andersen and Samuel Womack were both picked in the fifth round, followed by Desjuan Johnson being chosen in the seventh round in 2023. The streak continued with Mitchell’s selection in 2024, and now includes Alexander as well.

Two picks after Alexander was selected, the Cleveland Browns selected another MAC player,
Harold Fannin Jr.
