Must-See Players as Packers Prepare for Day 2 of NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. – As the Green Bay Packers move into Day 2 of the NFL Draft, they have key positions to strengthen at cornerback as well as on both offensive and defensive lines.

Who will they pick? Here are the key selection on the way to No. 54 overall, which is the 22nd pick of the second round.

No. 37: Miami Dolphins – Arizona G Jonah Savaiinaea

Jonah Savaiinaea is the first player of interest off the board on Friday. Savaiinaea, who started with Jordan Morgan, started all 36 appearances in three seasons, with 16 at right tackle, 15 at right guard and five at left tackle in 2024.

In 2024, based on data from Pro Football Focus, there were 109 FBS-level offensive tackles eligible for the draft who participated in at least 650 snaps. His performance stood out as he placed 36th in PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metric—a statistic reflecting sacks, hits, and hurries relative to each passing-down play. Over these plays, he allowed four sacks along with an additional 15 pressures overall. Penalties weren’t much of an issue either; he drew just one penalty throughout his time on the field. Throughout the season, he accumulated slightly over 1,000 snaps playing right tackle, nearly another thousand playing right guard, and logged 345 snaps at left tackle.

Cornerbacks at the Beginning of Day 2

If the Packers decide to part ways with Jaire Alexander and require additional depth at cornerback, they can consider several talented prospects who slipped past the first round. These include Will Johnson from Michigan, Shavon Revel from East Carolina, Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame, and Trey Amos from Mississippi. Each player has some health issues; specifically, Johnson had knee problems, Revel also dealt with knee injuries, and Morrison underwent hip surgery. Consequently, all three missed significant playing time during the previous season and didn’t participate in the 40-yard dash.

The board also includes Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State, who doesn’t have the ideal speed, clocking in at 4.58 seconds for the 40-yard dash, and Darien Porter from Iowa State, who has limited experience after being a part-time player for just one season.

Preview: Conversation with Matthew Golden’s Mentor

In the past, Chris Jackson played as a wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers. Today, he serves as the receivers coach at Texas. Following Matthew Golden being selected by the Packers in the first round on Thursday, Jackson and Golden linked up successfully.

I praised him and said, ‘Dude, you established the groundwork and set up a stage.’ He grabbed the torch and sprinted ahead since he embraced the team’s ethos and committed fully to whatever Coach Steve Sarkisian wanted from him, which paid off handsomely for him. This demonstrates that occasionally all one needs to do is dive in and get to work without worrying too much about what happens next. Hence, I commended him, expressing my pride, yet ultimately this places him in an advantageous spot to support his loved ones. However, his adventure has only just begun.

We will release the complete article on Sunday.
