Tech Giant Threatens Staff: Return to Office Three Days a Week or Lose Job

Google is requiring certain remote employees to come back to the office for a minimum of three days per week; otherwise, they risk losing their positions.

The technology company has informed employees across multiple departments that their positions might be jeopardized if they fail to begin coming into the nearest office, according to CNBC.

At minimum, several of the impacted employees had been granted permission to work entirely from home before this change.

As many businesses try to reintegrate their staff into physical offices after an increase in remote work due to the pandemic, this development emerges.

Google has been offering staff voluntary buyouts since January as it makes cost cuts.

Certain remote employees have been informed that they must embrace the hybrid model; otherwise, they’ll be compelled to adopt this alternative arrangement.

“As we have mentioned previously, face-to-face collaboration plays a crucial role in our innovation process and helps us tackle intricate challenges,” stated a representative from Google to CNBC.

‘Some teams have requested that remote workers living close to an office come back for in-person work three days each week to facilitate this.’

According to documents reviewed by CNBC, remote workers residing too far from a Google office for practical commuting are receiving a single relocation stipend designed to help them relocate within a 50-mile radius of a Google location.

The teams that have received warnings include Google Technical Services and People Operations.
