The PlayStation 5 is getting a software update that brings back the looks of yesteryear. After fans applauded the move to apply
the appearances of past Sony generations
to their consoles’ home screens during the PlayStation 30th anniversary last year, the company
said
it was working on making those permanent aesthetic options. That promised return of the four retro UI looks is the highlight of the upcoming PS5
update
.
Sadly, the startup sound effects that were included with previous generations won’t return. However, you can modify the visual aspect freely under the Appearance section within the Settings menu.
Another significant aspect of the forthcoming software update introduces a function known as Audio Focus, designed to enhance immersion when playing with headphones or headsets. This feature offers various preset options allowing gamers to amplify voices, lower-frequency sounds, higher-pitched noises, or subtle audio details according to their preference. Additionally, you have control over the degree of amplification, which can be adjusted from weak to medium to strong levels.
The global rollout for the PS5 update will start on April 24.
