recap:
Horton Square:
Gabi enjoys some ice cream when she ignores a call from JJ. Just then, Cat arrives, and they take the opportunity to catch up. She takes a seat, and Gabi asks about her life. Cat says she’s been busy organizing the hospital fundraiser with Chad. Gabi immediately asks what’s up with the two of them.
Cat says she and Chad are on good terms, but Gabi wants more details. She thought they might be together. Cat doesn’t understand and Gabi says she saw chemistry between them. She gets a wee goofy and says they have come a long way but they’re just friends. Gabi pushes about the possible sparks between the two of them leading Cat to a cute flashback. In real-time, she lies saying they’ve had no sparks. She shifts and asks if Gabi and JJ will be at the fundraiser. Gabi says she will be there, but JJ won’t as they are currently at odds because he accused her of murder.
Horton House:
Johnny arrives and tells Chad he went to see EJ. He thanks his uncle for giving him such good advice. He goes into the conversation with his mother and says he doesn’t think he will ever understand her choices but now gets her a bit better. Chad asks if the conversation changed the way he feels about his dad.
Chad gets a call from Belle saying EJ is awake. He says Johnny is with him and will relay the news. Chad tells Johnny and wants to get him to the hospital. Johnny flashes back to pulling the gun from Roman’s lockbox. In real-time, Johnny tells Chad there is no reason for him to go to the hospital.
Paulina and Abe’s Apartment:
Mama Choi arrives to see Paulina and apologizes for dropping in unannounced. She is there to revisit the idea of Chanel and Johnny adopting her grandchild. She says Sophia and Tate have continued to make their case based on EJ being out of the picture. Both Chanel and Paulina say EJ will be of the picture whether or not he fully recovers. Chanel says she has her word EJ will not be a part of their child’s life. Mama Choi says she has no objections and confirms Johnny and Chanel can adopt the baby (Y’all better get than signed, sealed and delivered immediately). Just then, Chanel gets a text from Johnny saying EJ is awake.
Mama Choi wonders where Chanel and Johnny will live. Paulina says they can live there but they also have their own money and can afford a place. Paulina guarantees the baby won’t want for anything. Chanel says she needs to be honest about something. She and Johnny aren’t quite as religious as they made themselves out to be. That being said, they are God-fearing people and intend on raising the child in the church. Mama Choi appreciates her honesty and says again she will let them go forward with the adoption.
University Hospital – Lobby:
Belle asks Susan if EJ said anything, but Susan says he’s still resting. Susan heads back into the room as Belle decides to update his family.
University Hospital – EJ’s Room:
EJ chokes a bit on his water when Susan returns. He asks his mother what happened to him. She says someone shot him in the chest. Susan realizes he must have seen the person who almost killed him. EJ says his mind is fuzzy and asks for more details. Susan only knows Chad found him in the living room and called the paramedics. When he got to the hospital, they placed him in a medically induced coma. and he’s been out for about a week. EJ says he remembers seeing someone, just as Belle walks in. EJ looks up at her and says he remembers what Belle did. Susan wrongfully assumes Belle shot him and calls her a “diabolical hussy.” EJ says Belle didn’t shoot him in the chest. She stabbed him in the back. He explains about her wearing a wire in an attempt to send him to prison. Belle wants to leave but EJ asks her to stay. He asks his mother to give them a minute and she reluctantly agrees. When Susan exits, EJ asks Belle if she truly loves him.
EJ repeats the question when Chad walks in and embraces his brother. Belle says she will give them time to talk and wishes EJ a good night. EJ says he knows Chad is the one who found him and asks what brought him to the house that night. Chad reminds his brother he left him a voicemail about The Spectator article. Chad apologizes for the trouble it caused and feels guilty because of how angry it probably made so many people. He asks if EJ remembers anything, and he says he’s still trying to piece everything together. He knows Belle was there but definitely left. EJ suddenly remembers someone else was there, as well. Chanel was there giving him the business about ruining their adoption. He remembers she came and went. Afterwards, he remembers Kristen came home. Chad updates him on the investigation which seems to clear their sister. Chad tells him to take his time as they will get the person who shot him.
Marlena and John’s Penthouse:
Sophia arrives and tells Tate her mother has been doing quite a bit of thinking about letting Johnny and Chanel adopt their baby. She has a feeling her mother has finally made a decision. Tate inquires but Sophia isn’t sure which way she is leaning.
Sophia and Tate switch to thinking about the process of giving birth. Tate offers to help by being in the room as a birthing partner. Sophia thinks it’s a good idea as she needs someone to keep her calm. They decide to sign up for lamaze classes but want to start breathing exercises right that minute.
Sophia lays back against Tate as he reads the breathing instructions to her. As she does so, the baby kicks. She takes Tate’s hand and lets him feel. They both agree it’s amazing and weird. Just then, Sophia gets a text from her mother saying she agreed to the adoption.
Horton Square:
Cat inquires about the murder business and Gabi says EJ deserved to be shot, just as Susan walks up. She demands Gabi take back the harsh words about her son. Cat realizes Susan is EJ’s mother and Gabi introduces the two women. Cat awkwardly explains she lived in the house with EJ and Susan is not how she pictured his mother. Susan takes it as a compliment and says most folks think she is his sister… specifically, Kristen (I do love how Gabi leaned in and said she would explain it all later).
Susan asks if the two are friends. When Cat says they are, Susan warns “Kitty Cat Greene” to stay away from this “forked-tongue viper” as she is MEAN MEAN MEAN! Gabi grabs Susan and warns her to get her fingers out or her face! Susan recoils and says she knows Gabi was at her son’s house the night he was shot. Gabi flashes back to being outside the door, with a gun, and watching EJ inside. In real-time, Gabi says Susan is making no sense but Susan doubles down. She says EJ is awake and soon he will be pointing his finger right at her. Susan tells Cat her mother loves the chocolates she sent but to skip the cherries next time. With that, she exits. Gabi says she is a total loon and should ignore her. Cat gets it but says she did send her mother a box of chocolates the day before.

Susan Inspires Belle to Awaken EJ
Endings
Belle, Tate and Sophia arrive at Paulina and Abe’s place. Belle has the adoption papers ready to be signed. Chanel signs and Paulina hugs her daughter. Belle hands the copy to Tate and Sophia. He hesitates, looks at Sophia, and then signs and Sophia does the same.
Chad runs into Cat in the hospital lobby and thanks her for the support the night of the shooting. He updates her on his condition but notes his brother doesn’t remember who shot him.
Susan brings EJ some tea and asks about Belle. He says it didn’t go far because of Chad’s arrival. He now knows the police have no leads. Susan stops him saying she thinks she knows the identity of the culprit.
Gabi remains in Horton Square and flashes back to being at the DiMera mansion the night of the shooting. She says there’s no way Susan could know what she did that night.
Johnny arrives home and Chanel says she has the best news! Mama Choi changed her mind, and the adoption is a go! Everyone has signed the paperwork, except him. They embrace and Chanel says he is going to be a daddy. Johnny seems less than enthused.
