Marelli, a supplier of automotive technologies, plans to showcase its auto lighting innovations at Auto Shanghai 2025.
During the event, the company plans to introduce what they claim to be the world’s first OLED TFT used in a Pixel Rear Lamp, along with Near-Field Ground Projection technology and the Thin Lit Line Headlamp.
The Pixel Rear Lamp features advanced display technology within the taillights by utilizing OLED-TFT technology for higher resolution.
This feature facilitates dynamic light communication and customization by showing vehicle status and driving intent data to other individuals on the road via changing visuals, thus improving traffic safety.
The lamp reportedly enables effortless vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity and is claimed to be more economical compared to current miniLED and MicroLED display options, offering “refined and fluid” dynamic imagery.
With a weight of just 60 grams, Marelli’s Near-Field Ground Projection technology projects vibrant, animated images onto the area surrounding the car, resulting in a comprehensive 360-degree illumination effect.
The small and portable projection tech boosts safety through projected warnings and upgrades interaction by showing details like the status of autonomous driving and battery levels.
Additionally, the projection modules can be fitted into doors, rearview mirrors, and fenders.
The Thin Lit Line Headlamp boasts an extremely slim five-millimeter (mm) profile. By breaking away from traditional design limitations, this compact form enables creators to craft distinctive, forward-thinking, and customized car aesthetics that match customer preferences. Key attributes of the headlamp include Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB), indicators, low beams, and daytime running lamps.
The firm indicated that both the Near-Field Ground Projection unit and the Slim Line Headlamp are prepared for large-scale manufacturing.
Frank Huber, the president of Marelli’s Lighting division, stated, “At Auto Shanghai, we are thrilled to present the global premiere of the ‘Pixel Rear Lamp,’ which features the world’s first use of an OLED TFT in external lighting.”
Along with two additional remarkable advancements—the ‘Near-Field Ground Projection’ module and the ‘Thin Lit Line Headlamp’. These developments reflect our commitment to maintaining leadership in automotive lighting innovation. We strive to collaborate with our clients to develop features that not only improve and customize vehicle aesthetics but also elevate the driving experience, all while boosting safety measures.
