Hotel Herringbone complex celebrating one-year anniversary in downtown Waco, Texas

WACO, Texas (KWTX) –

A downtown Waco development born out of an abandoned project of shipping containers is thriving today as a bustling hotel, restaurant and entertainment venue and is celebrating its one-year anniversary this week.

Hotel Herringbone will have a birthday bash Friday on its property from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m overnight with food, live music and a community market.

Adriana Regan is the general manager of Hotel Herringbone and said the space is worth celebrating.

“It’s such an incredibly powerful story of creativity, of passion, of community and key leaders in the community coming together to create an incredible space and culture,” Regan said. “We celebrate not only the passion behind food, architecture and art space but most importantly creating a space in Waco that will feed the soul of Waco.”

Hotel Herringbone is 21-room boutique hotel which utilizes the shipping containers as guest rooms in which no two rooms are alike.

It was an abandoned project in bankruptcy with the shipping containers sitting empty when Lisa Blackmon with the City of Waco connected with Rad Lab, an architectural firm in San Diego, to revive and reimagine the space.

Rad Lab uncovered elements dating back over 120 years and instead of tearing it down, they leaned in creating a new experience while holding on to its roots.

The property also includes Red Herring, a unique dining destination that they call their “crown jewel.”

Phil Auchettl is co-owner and CEO of Hotel Herringbone.

“Architecture is artistic expression,” Auchettl said.  “Its power lies in creating emotional responses through space and fostering meaningful engagement with the community.”

David Littlewood is the CEO of TFNB Your Bank for Life and has been a huge community supporter of the hotel development.

“It’s a monumental experience and place to get together,” Littlewood said.  “You see downtown morphing into this destination.   I’ve traveled quite a bit, and you could put this in Paris, Rome, any city in the world and this place would be an outlier and outstanding anywhere but it’s in Waco.”

The birthday bash is free to attend but VIP tables are available for purchase.  For more information you can go to
